How can I help?

Before we know it hundreds of men, women and children will be toeing up to the starting line on Bellevue Street, the smell of candy canes and Ben Gay will waft in the air, the sounds of jingle bells will accompany the rhythm of 6 to 12 minute miles...

And (even more hopefully) many PRCers and their friends, family and loved ones will be volunteering for the annual Walter's Run road race.

Yes, the Walter's Run is approaching fast.  AS ALWAYS WE NEED AS MANY VOLUNTEERS AS POSSIBLE!!!  Thanks for Special Volunteer help from the students of the SHOWA Boston School in 2009.  In 2010, we continue to keep the young folks involved.  Groups from Boston Latin Academy as well as Boston Sports Clubs for Kids in Newton are both volunteering.  In addition, Matt O'Malley (a Walter's Run sponsor) is bringing a group to man the water table.

We need help before the race, setting things up, giving out race numbers and helping with our food table. During the race we need LOTS of help, standing on the corners, directing runners, working with law enforcement to direct traffic and cheering loudly.  We'll also need help at our water table, at our 1 and 2 mile check points and at the finish line. Afterwards we need a few of you to commit to staying and cleaning up (although this generally not a problem).

Those who volunteer before the race should be at the YMCA by 9am.  Those who volunteer during the race should be at the Y by 10am. Plus any PRC member in good standing who volunteers will get their name thrown in the hat one extra time for a Boston marathon number!!!

I'm sure I don't need to tell you that the more people who volunteer the better a chance the event will run smoothly and more people will come back next year. Please let me know as soon as you can whether you can volunteer and when you'll be able to do so (before, during or both).
